Virtual Audio Cable (VAC) is an audio bridge between applications that transmits sounds (audio streams) from app to app, from device to device. VAC creates a set of virtual audio devices. Each device simulates an audio adapter (card) whose output is internally connected to the input, making a loopback. Virtual Audio Cable is an all-in-one audio utility to record, connect, broadcast, streaming audios. For example, you could use Audacity and microphone as audio generators and connect them to VAC, then record the mixed stream from the VAC directly, or broadcast the mixed stream to Skype or Justin.tv.

This software tool introduces the 'virtual cables', which refer to a set of virtual audio devices containing input and output ports. Practically, the input port records the audio signal (from a music player, for example) and sends it to the destination program (such as a sound processor or analyzer) using the output port.
